Tour Overview: Tanzanite Mining Experience

Begin your journey at our Mirerani office with an introduction to the fascinating history and origins of tanzanite. Continue to the mining site, where you will discover the different mine blocks and gain insight into the extraction process. With an opportunity to go underground, you’ll learn about the area’s unique geology and the techniques used to recover this rare gemstone. The experience then moves to the local mineral market, where you can explore a variety of gemstones, including tanzanite, ruby, garnet, and tourmaline, with the option to purchase stones. At the end of the visit, each participant receives a certificate of participation to commemorate the experience.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Introduction of Mining

Before heading to the mining site, visitors will begin at our Mirerani office with an introduction to the history and origins of the Tanzanite mines, learning how this rare gemstone was discovered and how mining has developed in the area.

Overview of Mining

After the introduction at our Mirerani office, guests will proceed to the mining site, where they will explore the different mining blocks and learn about their locations, characteristics, and roles in Tanzanite extraction.

Underground Mining

After exploring the mining area, guests will descend underground to discover the geological formations, rock types, and conditions in which tanzanite is found. Once back on the surface, they will learn about the initial stages of the tanzanite production process, gaining insight into how the gemstone is extracted and prepared for the next steps.

Local Mineral Market

After returning to the surface, guests will visit the local gemstone market to explore a wide variety of Tanzanian gemstones, including tanzanite, ruby, garnet, tourmaline, and many other precious and semiprecious stones. This is a great opportunity to see the gemstones up close, learn more about their variety, and, for those interested, purchase stones through the buying arrangements we have organized with local traders.

At the end of the experience, each guest will receive a Certificate of Participation as a special memento of their Tanzanite Mining Experience in Mirerani.
